I wanted John McCain for prez in 2000 and I think we'd be better off if we had gotten him. Although history tells us it probably took some Bush insiders a lot of work to steal the election from Gore anyway, so McCain probably would never have won. But I digress.
I may still vote for McCain but am undecided at this point. Part of what steers me away from him is the that he, as a Vietnam POW, does not see Vietnam when it's staring him in the face. Sure Iraq isn't exactly the same as Vietnam, but in the ways that count, the ways that made Vietnam an inevitable failure, the two are essentially the same. So I just don't see how he can say we're winning anything over there.

What the hell is wrong with Eddie Van Halen?
Van Halen just cancelled another week of shows due to Eddie's mystery ailment. Why is there always some bizarre drama with Van Halen? Here's an Onion headline for you:

Obama v Clinton
So I had a thought finally on Obama versus Clinton. Mr. Obama is positioned as the "Washington outsider" candidate, and he doesn't seem to have enough experience for the job. He said on 60 Minutes his work running a successful campaign against the Clinton Machine is proof enough that he can run a large organization. That's basically a joke in and of itself, but letting that slide for now I want to get to my main point.
We just had 8 years (8 years? WTF?!) of the "Washington outsider" who didn't have enough experience and surrounded himself with a bizarre combination of ancient insiders with axes to grind and inexperienced buffoons who embarrassed the US government at every chance. Even if you were to throw out the Iraq war as outlier, Bush has been a mediocre president at best.
We don't need another mediocre president and we don't need another guy appointing all his idiot local-politics friends to cabinet positions because he's trying to shake things up. We need experience and we need someone who can restore some amount of confidence in the government of the United States of America.
I have been in a hate/hate relationship with Republicans for so long (what happened to all the fiscal conservatives?) that it pains me to say it, but assuming McCain and gets the nod I would have to vote for him over Obama. At least with McCain you'd have a real wartime president running the show. Maybe some of those marines would get their requested armored vehicles for once. Ah who am I kidding, I live in Texas - my vote doesn't even matter!

Bleh
So HBO has decided to cancel Inside the NFL. Am I the only person that watches that show and finds it to be the smartest football show on the air? Even the obligatory co-host razzing seems to work. One less reason for me to keep HBO. Actually I think that may have been my final reason to keep HBO. And they killed off Doakes on Dexter, so watch out Showtime - you're probably next.
